WBC Woman: Martha Saldivar 

The most beloved lady in boxing and the most important, because behind the spotlights, the cameras, the interviews and the glamor of boxing, she has been the foundation, the strength and the shelter not only of the Sulaimán family but also for the boxers.

Doña Martha, in addition to being Don José Suliamán’s Wife and the love of his life for 42 years, was the one who generously opened the doors of her home to hundreds of boxers who knocked on it, looking for who was then President of the WBC, but also those who were looking for kindness and support of Doña Martha,  who not only cooked and served them meals but also gave them the nourishment of advice, a pleasant chat and a genuine kindness that traverses the family of nations.

Doña Martha was born in Ciudad Victoria, Tamaulipas, where she spent a quiet childhood and youth… until she met a young man hungering, thirsting, willing and hankering after  change in the world order, in order to  leave an indelible mark via the footsteps of  his path, and so they did, Together they became  a couple who, over the years, built the foundation and the cornerstone of boxing and thanks to Doña Martha’s understanding, patience, love and unconditional support for her husband, he was able to dedicate a large part of his life and time to boxing, while she was to be the mother and father to their five children, since Don José spent a lot of time traveling.

However, Dona Martha’s role is also monumental and fundamental, as she was also the support of her husband in the most complex moments, his confidant, wisest and best ally, the counselor and also, why not say it, the strong voice when she knew something was wrong and must be rectified plus resolved.

She carries the atlas of the Sulaimán family on her shoulders but also the mantle of the Green and Gold Global Family.  And  although perhaps her appearances on camera or in the boxing arenas might seem few for the time she has been always linked to boxing, She is the woman who has been most involved in this sport, who has given up the privacy of her home and spent  her life helping anyone…and all who need it, and are in need.  Our Matriarch.
