WBC welcomes Mexico´s Special Olympics heroes

The World Boxing Council warmly greeted Mexico`s Special Olympics Team, who are gearing up to the Summer Games, which are less than five months away.

The Tremendous Team were given a resounding ovation at the WBC`s Martes a Café press conference, which was this week at Mexico City`s Food Market.  Fernanda Martinez who`s The Director of the organization in Mexico, thanked WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, saying that the Special Olympics which was founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, to honor her sister Rosemary, is this year celebrating its fiftieth anniversary.  Fernanda was presented with a WBC Champion`s mini wrist belt.

Four percent of the World`s population is challenged by some sort of disability. That`s more than two hundred million people. The Special Olympics offers the experience of Sports, health, education and constructing communities.  A film of the achievements of Mexican Special Olympic athletes was wonderful, magnificent and humbling.  The efforts, the enthusiasm and the joy in achieving them are truly superb. They do us proud and it brought tears to the eyes of many hardened sports journalists.

WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar Martinez, who`s offering the athletes training sessions, and WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman were busy chatting to the members of the Squad and autographing WBC donated WBC merchandise.  For their part, they presented Mauricio with a certificate, thanking him for his support and also thanking him and the WBC…for caring!
