At WBC Convention 60 in Acapulco, Aussie boxing legend Jeff Fenech has been awarded the super featherweight belt thirty one years after he fought a draw for it against “Professor” Azumah Nelson.
A panel of WBC Judges reassessed the June 28th 1991 at the Mirage Hotel, Las Vegas, which was the undercard of the Mike Tyson Vs Donovan Razor Ruddock fight. Prior to it Jeff had been undefeated in twenty five fights. This time it was a UD for “The Marrackville Mauler.” That makes a grand total of four WBC belts for him.
WBC Vice President and leader of its International Committee Mauro Betti, has been awarded a WBC bracelet for his outstanding work. Also, Mauro hasn’t missed a WBC Convention in thirty six years!
Awards to Coach Abel Sanchez and former WBC lightweight champion Miguel Angel Gonzalez. Miguel Angel won the fight of his life and for his life, overcoming and conquering alcohol problems. He thanked the WBC for their support and help in this successful battle.
All this at the WBC’s first dinner of the Convention. The Gala dinner is still to come.
