The entire Muslim world is celebrating the holy month of Ramadan – this is the month in which the Holy Quran was revealed.
According to the Ottoman tradition, which has been preserved in modern Turkey, when the muezzin announces the beginning of evening prayer, it is time for iftar – breaking the fast. Turkish food plays an integral role in Ramadan celebrations, bringing friends and family together, which is a strong tradition in Turkish culture.
This year, on the streets of the Kadikoy district near the Sögütlüçeşme Mosque, the Turkish Professional Boxing Commission, together with WBC Turkey, held a charity event unifying the boxing society in Istanbul and gave a free dinner for 5,000 people in memory of Jose Sulaiman – the WBC Eternal president. This action was carried out with the support of Serdar Avci the WBC Turkey President, Şerdil Dara Odabaşı the mayor of the Kadikoy district, as well as Oksana Semenishina a member of the WBC board of governors.
Members of the Boxing Commission, members of WBC Turkey and boxers took an active part in the action with Jose Sulaiman’s photographs in their hands. Everyone interested in the life of the great leader could listen to the achievements and changes which he did, becoming the face of modern boxing.
Those who came for the iftar dinner were treated to soup, chicken pilaf, chickpeas, sweets and ayran.
