John and Danielle Jacaman have created VIVE TV which has combined with the World Boxing Council to bring fight fans a network which provides twenty-four-hour boxing, with the best coverage, shows and fascinating interviews.
We sat down and talked about boxing and this revolutionary and cutting edge form of television with them.
How did the idea of a boxing channel come about?
That is actually a long story, and it was a process, but we always knew that VIVE TV would be revolutionary. Even back when the industry favored short-form VOD (video on demand), we remained steadfastly committed to providing linear, long-form entertainment. As avid boxing fans, we recognized the plight fight fans face: a fragmented market and subscription and pay-per-view fatigue. We not only argue that it should not be cost-prohibitive to follow boxing and experience live events, but we owe it to the 95% of unknown professional athletes to tell their stories and build audience awareness.
How have you and Danielle been able to combine with the WBC for this to happen, because it’s already underway?
It is absolutely a team effort, and it is possible because all parties concerned share a passion for proliferating the sport of boxing. We feel extremely fortunate to be part of the WBC family.
In what way can boxing fans access this as television viewers?
Infinite screen reach is an ongoing endeavor, but the easiest way is to visit keepboxingfree.com. No registration is required – simply tune in live instantaneously. Fans may also install the ‘VIVE TV’ iOS, Android mobile & TV, Fire TV, and Roku apps for instant access, as well as the multi-channel Channelbox app worldwide and Channel 271 in the UK.
You talk about sustaining livelihoods, by providing a platform for talent. How is this being done?
WBC LIVE Channel x VIVE TV is a 24/7 boxing entertainment destination designed to build an audience, and therefore community around, ‘regular season’ professional boxing and Muay Thai, not just the title fights and handful of contenders. The bigger the audience, the more revenues we can generate through sponsorship and advertising and pump back into broadcasting live events of all stages. By showcasing otherwise overlooked talent, they stand to gain fans earlier in their careers and earn bigger opportunities against established opponents sooner.
How important is it to make strategic alliances with companies?
Extremely. VIVE TV’s infrastructure – and consequently WBC LIVE Channel – is made possible by tech titans such as SONY and Oracle, both of which are invested in the ‘Keep Boxing Free’ initiative.
Moreover, we have created a vehicle for brands to meaningfully connect and engage with audiences worldwide both with the round-the-clock show lineup and the live event schedule. Fans will soon be able to join sponsored private Watch Parties with friends anywhere in the world thanks in large part to these company alliances.
Tell us about the shows already on air, and also the plans for Pay Per View events.
95% of the programming is in English or Spanish with English subtitles, and we refresh regularly – 40 hours minimum per month. WBC LIVE Channel features several ‘talking head’ commentary-style shows, including The Boxing Authorities which will tape its 100th episode in August 2022 and the longest-running combat-themed podcast, Ring Talk Worldwide with Pedro Fernandez. More information about the shows, talent team, and schedule is available at .
Future plans for the channel lineup include an abundance of live programming, such as guest interviews, press conferences, weigh-ins, and of course, free professional boxing and Muay Thai from all over the world.
The pandemic has slowed down everything for everyone. How have you been able to overcome that, bit by bit?
Live events all but came to a standstill; however, travel restrictions are easing somewhat which helps matchmaking, and normal live event attendance is possible again. We hope that the worst is behind us for the sake of the sports of boxing and Muay Thai.
What are your aims for this extraordinary and visionary venture?
First, to build an enormous global audience by expanding to as many FAST (free ad-supported streaming television) platforms and RSN’s (regional sports networks) as possible, and second to televise more free live combat events than any other platform. That’s why we use the #BoxingWithoutBorders hashtag!
Tell us some more about the event that Jesse James Leija is organizing for September?
This is a huge undertaking, and we are excited to have the champion in our corner as the primary promoter (Leija-Battah Promotions). Together we are kickstarting the WBC Green & Gold Professional Boxing OPEN, a global tournament that will transpire across different continents on a continuum. It will launch in San Antonio, Texas (USA), and registrations are open at . Fighters in every weight division, male and female, all around the world are welcome to submit their entries. We look forward to releasing additional details and the event schedule soon, all of which is contingent upon athlete participation from each region and division.
How long will this take to become a smash hit?
Ironically, that depends on fight fans. The more people who watch, the more live events and original entertainment we can produce. So, the faster the audience grows, the sooner we become the ultimate boxing broadcaster.
We encourage fight fans to help spread the word about WBC LIVE Channel and help us understand our audience by completing a survey () for the chance to be a remote guest commentator during an upcoming live fight card.
Super fans are also invited to check out the #KeepBoxingFree crowdfunding campaign launching in August 2022. Contributions start as low as USD $5.00, and 100% of any contributions will be applied to the initiative for equipment purchases and production personnel (for live events), music licensing fees, and channel running costs. We look forward to revealing the perks (a.k.a. rewards) which will include combinations of physical, digital, and virtual goods within the days to come. The initial campaign goal will be USD $50,000.00 (fifty thousand dollars), but the sky is the limit. Ultimately, the objective is to get fight fans involved with building a community around the #KeepBoxingFree initiative.
