The WBC Ring Officials Committee has met with the aim and intention of following up on key initiatives and programs for the benefit of our sport, and one of them is to conduct tests on both sides of the ropes.
As part of these activities, it was agreed that the WBC Clean Boxing Program would be extended to our ring officials, by conducting random tests on them, prior to participating by officiating.
The different tests are to ensure honesty and integrity in boxing.
This weekend, the program was implemented with great success during boxing events in Russia and Mexico.
Chelyabinsk, Russia
Prior to the fight on August 23 in Russia, starring Ilunga Makabu defending his WBC silver cruiser crown against Aleksei Papin, supervisor Oksana Semenishana, applied the breathalyzer test to the panel of ring officials. This included the 3 judges: Troyce Stamey, Predag Aleksic, Francisco Alloza and referee Héctor Afú, all showing negative results.
Sonora, Mexico
Prior to the fight on August 23, in Sonora, Mexico, of Francisco “Gallo” Estrada defending his super flyweight crown against Dewayne Beamon, Abraham Ibarra, representing the WBC, applied the breathalyzer test to referee Abdiel Barragan, and an anti-doping test of 5 elements to Eliseo González, one of the judges. Both showed negative results.
The World Boxing Council whole heartedly congratulates our outstanding ring officials for participating in this program and also for always performing their duties with honor and professionalism.
