WBC Cares visits DIF Huixquilucan in the ongoing battle against breast cancer

A World Boxing Council champions team joined the fight against breast cancer in the municipality of Huixquilucan, where 6,800 patients with this serious condition have been treated.

“This terrible illness has grown alarmingly in recent years in women between the ages of 25 and 55, many of whom have lost this battle, mostly by not detecting this condition in time,” revealed Christiane Manzur Zairich, President of the WBC-CARES foundation in Mexico.

Accompanied by great Mexican boxers, Mariana Juárez, Irma García and Ana María Torres, the President of the municipal DIF of Huixquilucan, Romina Contreras de Vargas, said: “We continue to send patients with possible cancer to hospitals and another foundation performs breast reconstructions for people who are already rehabilitated.”

She announced that the DIF of Huixquilucan is about to acquire a second unit, which will be touring communities in order to detect cancer in time.

Mrs. Romina Contreras affirmed that the campaign against cancer is ongoing and permanent, not only in the month of October, but all year round. There is a Pink Unit which makes tours of all the communities of the municipality and residential area, where some patients with possible cancer have been detected.

Through sports, the Huixquilucan DIF aims to reach women to raise awareness and minimize risks of breast cancer, to save lives.

WBC-CARES Mexico President Christiane Manzur and the boxers presented Romina Contreras with pink gloves symbolizing the WBC’s efforts against breast cancer.
