Since 2005, WBC Cares, a group of wonderful, truly caring enthusiastic and empathetic volunteers, have fulfilled Jose Sulaiman’s visionary message of service to others; and today we continue that mission guided by the inspirational leadership Mauricio Sulaiman.
When I walked into the Convention on October 8th 2005, I couldn’t believe all your beautiful faces creeds, cultures and sheer quality of our people. The greatest of the GREAT. And now, in 2020, with my partner Christiane Manzur alongside me, we grow bigger and bolder and more bountiful.
On our first visit I was with Genaro Hernandez and Erik Morales. CHLA didn’t want boxers visiting the children., but through friends and persistence, on October 10, 2006 we got in. Afterwards, we were guests for life and for lives. A couple of years later, a father wrote us that had it not been for Genaro’s inspiration, his son may not have made it through the harsh, exacting, painful and grueling treatments. That boy, that father never knew that Genaro had passed away from the same illness. Some battles by their nature cannot be won. Rather it`s the incredible, humbling and magnificently courageous way in which they are fought from beginning to end.
Legacy.
This has been a very, very hard year. Nothing prepared us for the loss of love ones, work, and the absence of warmth of human contact. Yet…we are Boxing and Muaythai. We are tough. We are warriors, and we WILL prevail, overcoming all obstacles. So, although our feet are rooted in our sport, our hearts are filled with compassion. Together, we will rise and reconnect. That’s us. That’s what the WBC is. It`s the fundamental and it`s the essential WBC us.
WBC Cares is yours. You created the global platform we firmly stand upon. You support our every mission, deed and event. We put a caring face on our sport; allow our warriors to show their hearts, encourage our members to step out of the arena straight into the welcoming, admiring and loving arms of their friends and families.
WBC Cares has added several chapters so those with first hand knowledge of their area are best qualified to attend to them.
For the next few days, we will post a small offering of by some of the greatest and most memorable Cares Chapters, in the words of those who brought them into being. to bring joy to your holiday and to remind you that around the world, we are at perpetually at work. We fighters as well as boxers. We are one sport. One people and One World.
With love and respect,
Jill
