The World Boxing Council, through its WBC Cares program, fulfilled this Thursday with an important economic presentation to former Nicaraguan boxers, who are going through hard times in their old age.
For that reason, WBC Cares Nicaragua, organized a working meeting, to deliver aid and explain the importance of this program, which in several years has already served for economic aid to these former fighters who suffer various difficulties and health problems.
The meeting was at the El Español Restaurant, in the Malecón of Managua, and was chaired by Bismarck Morales, a Judge and Nicaraguan Supervisor belonging of the WBC, together with former Nicaraguan world champion Rosendo Álvarez, a two-time world champion and currently manager of boxers.
The event also included the participation of the mayor of Managua, Reyna Rueda, the Deputy Mayor Enrique Armas, the Commissioner General Javier Dávila, the president of Nicaraguan Commission of Professional Boxing, General Juan Alberto Molinares and Executive Director of the Company National Ports, Virgilio Silva.
The former national champion of Nicaragua and outstanding boxer Eduardo “Ratón” Mojica, will continue receiving a monthly payment from WBC Cares and the José Sulaimán Foundation, as he has been receiving for six years.
Also, Jorge Luis Aguilar, nicknamed “Olivarito”, received a small home thanks to Morales’ personal efforts.
“Olivarito”, who for health problems meant the loss of a leg, was also presented with another thousand dollars, to start some kind of family business. Undoubtedly, WBC Cares is changing his life, positively.
Former Central American and Caribbean champion Rudy Crawford also received a check of $ 5,500 from WBC Cares and the José Sulaiman Foundation, a similar amount that boxer Marlon Prado received, who a few years ago withdrew from boxing after losing vision of one of his eyes.
The popular Francisco “El Toro” Coronado was another fighter who received $ 5,500 from the WBC, enjoying it to the fullest as the jovial character that has always characterized him. Coronado has been one of the highest grossing boxers in the history of Nicaraguan boxing, but he did not fulfill the dream of being a World Champion because on January 15, 1977, he lost in Panama against Rafael “Brujo” Ortega, with the featherweight belt on the line. Later he would suffered a Machete attack which completely removed him from the sport.
“This support of boxers, was a fulfilled dream of Don José Sulaiman Chagnon, helping former fighters facing serious difficulties. The WBC is a family who helps its heroes.
