At the WBC, we are committed and determined to raise across the board awareness about breast cancer, which is why since 2013 we have joined this campaign, especially during October.
We dress in pink and join the breast cancer awareness to combat a deadly illness, which is a menace and a scourge, since it doesn’t account for age or social status but is CURABLE if detected in time. Early detection is absolutely vital!
The entire boxing family wears the symbolic pink bow, in addition, our ring officials show up to work with pink shirts. The WBC also with the prestigious glove brand Cleto Reyes to unveil a special edition of pink gloves that have been used since in title fights.
It is imperative for us working together, combined and united to get the message across to more women, in this so important campaign. Accordingly and walking the talk, the World Boxing Council will hold various activities where our champions and WBC Cares combine as ambassadors to get the message across in a crystal clear way.
So far, World Boxing Council Cares travelled to Queretaro to honor, applaud and celebrate incredibly brave women who have overcome and survived breast cancer. Margarita Carrasco the President of Women United Against Breast Cancer thanked the WBC for a Green and Gold Belt, on behalf of her colleagues/friends. She helped establish MUCCAM five years ago and since then, the Association has helped dozens of Breast Cancer battlers and survivors.
Also, last week, the world champions Estrella Valverde, Lulú Juárez and Erika Cruz participated with the COI Foundation (Oncology Center) and Novartis, joined the campaign “Makeup with a cause” event that is part of the dissemination in raising awareness in the ongoing life saving fight against breast cancer.
In the midst of talks about the importance of detection, the champions witnessed messages of encouragement from recovering patients and presentations from doctors. To close this great, vital and memorable day, a self-makeup class was held with the participation of Monica Godinez with the support of the makeup store “Nuestro Secreto”; in addition to David Cardenas, who was in charge of a makeover for one of the patients in recovery.
As part of our October Awareness Campaign, Christiane Manzur, WBC CARES MX President, emphasizes the vital importance of regular self examination, in order to detect any abnormality at the earliest possible stage. This is of paramount importance.
How to do the auto scan?
Standing in front of the mirror, note any changes in the look and feel of your breast, such as lumps, size differences, or discharge, then place your right hand behind the back of your neck and with three center fingers of the left hand, firmly feel your right breast making small ascending and descending circular movements. Make sure to cover the entire surface of the breast. Repeat the same steps, but this time on the other side.
Your fight inspires us to never give up and to always move forward facing every obstacle and adversity. We can, we must and we will defeat breast cancer.
