The World Boxing Council super bantamweight world champion, Yamileth Mercado, is ready, calm and poised to face Paulette Valenzuela on August 26, seeking to make the sixth defense of her Green and Gold title at the Morelos Convention Center, in Morelos, Mexico.
Yamileth has gained significant experience. She has fought Amanda Serrano, Alejandra Guzmán and Mariana Juárez. Last March she defeated Kudakwashe Chiwandire, improving her record to 21 wins with 5 knockouts and only 3 losses.
A spicy contest for the Tijuana fans to savor, since the “Heiress” Valenzuela a stone`s throw from the frontier, while Yamileth has lived in that place for some time and is on Jackie Nava’s team along with Miguel Reyes, Raúl Robles and Mario Mendoza.
Yamileth Mercado:
I am happy to return to the ring and defend my crown, this time in a new setting. Paulette is a dangerous rival, so I must be very focused. I know that everyone wants my Green and Gold Belt and I will do my best to defend it.
Paulette Valenzuela:
I want to thank Yamileth Mercado and the WBC for this great opportunity, because since I first got to the gym, my dream has been to wear the colors of the WBC.
I have waited such a long time for this opportunity and for that very reason, I will not let it go. This weekend there will be a new world champion.
