Undefeated top contender Frank “The Ghost” Martin will take on undefeated Olympic bronze medallist Artem Harutyunyan in a World Boxing Council lightweight title eliminator on July 15 at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Snowfall.
This bout embellishes the event where Filipino star Nonito Donaire will fight Mexican contender Alexandro Santiago fight for the vacant WBC bantamweight world title in the co-main event, plus top light lightweight contender Elvis Rodriguez will take on former world champion Viktor Postol in a bout of 10 rounds.
The 28-year-old Martin (17-0, 12 KOs) hauntingly stamped his status as one of the best 135-pound fighters last December when he defeated the previously unbeaten Michel Rivera by a dominant unanimous decision.
Martin’s initial ascent to 135 pounds saw him start by stopping then-undefeated Jerry Perez in April 2021 before dispatching tough contenders Jackson Marinez, Romero Duno and Ryan Kielczweski. Originally from Indianapolis, Indiana, Martin now trains in Dallas, guided by renowned trainer Derrick James and his promoter and unified welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
Harutyunyan (12-0, 7 KOs) won a bronze medal representing Germany at the 2016 Olympics before turning pro in late 2017.
Born in Armenia and now fighting out of Hamburg, Germany, Harutyunyan earned the best win of his career by knocking out Samuel Molina in five rounds in September 2021 and most recently defeated Humberto Galindo via unanimous decision in June. The 32-year-old boxer will make his US debut on July 15 after fighting in Germany in his first 12 fights.
The card will be televised by Showtime and is organized by Premier Boxing Champions..
