The card with two important world championship fights: Claressa Shields vs. Savannah Marshall and Mikaela Mayer vs. Alycia Baumgardner, has been postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Events across the UK were canceled or postponed in the wake of Queen Elizabeth’s death aged 96 on Thursday, including Premier League soccer matches, as the country entered a 10-days period of official national mourning.
Shields-Marshall and Mayer-Baumgardner were scheduled for Saturday at London’s O2 Arena.
Boxxer, one of the card promoters reported that Friday’s weigh-in would go ahead as planned, but out of respect it would be held behind closed doors without the media and fans being able to attend.
On Friday, the weigh-in was delayed until 3 p.m. London time, but the show was canceled after the British Boxing Board of Control, which regulates the sport in the UK, announced that all weekend boxing events won’t go ahead.
