Some fighters decided to go through different direction and didn’t materialize such fights so The WBC upgraded Haney vs Abdullaev from final elimination to WBC interim title. Haney was crowned with a top performance.
Lomachenko who was WBO and WBA champion petitioned to The WBC the opportunity to challenge for the vacant WBC lightweight championship once Mikey Garcia vacated it, and in an unprecedented ruling Lomachenko vs Luke Campbell was approved for the vacant title. Loma was awarded Franchise designation which led to a sensational series of fights in the division for the following 3 years, including:

Now the stage is set, and Haney will finally face Lomachenko for the undisputed lightweight championship of the world.
