World Boxing Council super lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) and former world champion Ryan García (24-1, 20 KOs) will clash on
Saturday, April 20 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Devin Haney, an undefeated and accomplished champion with a perfect record of 31 victories, managed to capture the undisputed 135-pound world title, then jump up a division and become WBC super lightweight champion.
“King” Ryan García, who was already WBC interim lightweight champion, has become one of the biggest names in boxing and, at only 25 years old, has burst onto the world scene.
Both fighters have history with the legendary Floyd Mayweather, as they have received advice from the multiple world champion at some point in their respective careers.
“I’ve had some training sessions with Floyd. We’ve talked numerous times and I’ve trained in his gym and gotten a lot of advice from him. I’m grateful for that. Floyd knows a lot about the game. He’s accomplished so much, he’s been in the game for so long. time. He became world champion the year I was born, so there’s a lot I learned from him,” Haney said in 2020.
On the other hand, Ryan has been seen on some occasions with Mayweather, both in his gym and in morning running sessions.
“Floyd is my mentor. I love him and respect him. He is very authentic. Judging a book by its cover will make you not read it. Derrick James is my coach and I love, admire and respect him too. But without a doubt Floyd has given me excellent advice and based on his experience I greatly appreciate it,” García commented.
Haney vs. García is one of the most anticipated fights of the year and has all the ingredients to become a classic. The fight card is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Haney Promotions, KingRy Promotions and Matchroom Boxing and will be broadcast live on DAZN.
