Road to #CaneloMunguia: Rivals in Common

We are edging ever closer to when compatriot Mexicans Saúl Canelo Álvarez and Jaime Munguía fight on May 4, at the T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas.

Canelo, 33, is meticulously preparing for an exacting fight,  against a younger Munguía, who at 27 years old seeks to reach the pinnacle of boxing.

The undisputed super middleweight champion, Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, will defend his titles against Jaime Munguía, who has an undefeated record of 43-0, 34 knockouts.

Canelo comes to this fight after having defeated Jermell Charlo in September of last year. Munguía arrives at the supreme portal after having knocked out the tough British southpaw John Ryder last January.

On September 17, 2016, challenger Canelo Alvarez sent the brave Briton to the canvas three times to finally end the torrid one way traffic action via a powerful left hook to the body in the ninth,  snatching the 154-pound belt from him. The fight took place at a packed AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas,

MUNGUIA VS LIAM SMITH

On July 21, 2018, Jaime Munguía successfully defended his 154-pound belt, defeating Britain’s Liam Smith by unanimous decision in a fight held at the Hard Rock Cafe in Las Vegas. The judges saw the fight with scores of 116-111, 119-110 and 119-108.

CANELO VS JOHN RYDER

Superstar Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, successfully defended his status as Undisputed World Champion of the super middleweight division, by defeating the durable  British John “Gorila” Ryder by unanimous decision, in the main fight of a card that took place held on Saturday night, May 6, 2023 at the Akron Stadium in Jalisco, Mexico.

The WBC super middleweight Silver champion, Mexican Jaime Munguía, obtained a resounding victory, by knocking out the brave English fighter John “Gorila” Ryder in the ninth round, whom he sent to the canvas four times, on the night of Saturday, January 27 2024 in the main event of a card that took place in Phoenix, Arizona.
