WBC Interim Welterweight Champion Mario “Azteca” Barrios, successfully defended his title, by winning by unanimous decision over lethargic Fabián “TNT” Maidana, on the undercatd of the “Canelo vs Munguía” at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Barrios sent Maidana to the canvas in the third round with a clipping right to the face, but was hampered by  a badly swollen right eye, which  assumed plum like proportions. Dented yet undaunted, intrepid Barrios, who was always the busier, won with identical scores of 116-111 to remain the owner of the interim WBC 147-pound belt.

With this victory, Barrios improves his record to 29-2, with 19 knockouts, while Maidana, who was pedestrian, offering a low punch output in this particular fight, is now 22-3, with 16 knockouts.
