Sinaloense fighter Pedro Guevara who will be jetting to Perth, Australia to fight Andrew Moloney at the RAC Arena on May 11th, says he’s hungry, focused and of course absolutely determined to take full advantage of the opportunity, which destiny is offering him, on a plate.
Carlos Cuadras was due to fight Moloney, but suffered an Achilles tendon injury during training, so Pedro has answered the call. Pedro and Carlos fought for the vacant belt last November during the WBC’s Convention in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with Pedro losing a SD. He bounced back with a UD victory over Lamberto Macias in February.
Andrew suffered a devastating twelfth round KO loss via a left hook delivered by Junto Nakatani last May for the vacant belt. Since then, he’s defeated Judy Flores by UD in December. Andrew 26-3, 16 KO’s is a former super flyweight champion. Pedro 41-4-1, 22 KO’s is a former WBC light flyweight champion.
Pedro is establishing his high altitude camp in mountains of Jiquipilco, Estado De Mexico and says he`ll be spending six weeks in the rugged, high perched mountain range terrain, to achieve the peak physical condition of his career. He says: “It’s a God Given chance. An extraordinary piece of fate and destiny, which I’m going to capitalize upon.
Commenting about Andrew’s loss to Nakatani, Pedro observed: “Junto is a very hard puncher and the risk of that bout for Andrew was too high. I respect Andrew for the fight he put up but he suffered a very aggressive KO. But, I do think he has recovered from that loss, because he`s fought again and won well.”
During an interview Andrew Moloney said he feels that Pedro Guevara is: “A bit too relaxed and he lacks the real hunger, that I myself have still got.” Pedro responded with a hearty laugh but then his smile vanished, as he responded: “We are going to talk with the gloves up in the ring. I don’t want to predict anything but maybe he’ll have a suprise on May 11th. He will discover that I’m indeed very hungry. In fact ravenous! The Cuadras fight was a war, but I didn’t have as much time to prepare as I have got now.
“Destiny has given me this opportunity. I believe in God and I have to work with my spirit and with good vibes, because fate has prepared this chance for me.”
