Visibly excited and with an emotion laden, faltering voice, the new World Boxing Council super flyweight Interim Champion Pedro Guevara received the coveted Green and Gold Belt from President Mauricio Sulaimán.
For Pedro, this opportunity came at the right time, since let’s remember that Pedro was coming off a points defeat with Carlos Cuadras, at the WBC Convention in Tashkent.
For the new monarch, the fight against Andrew Moloney was very competitive during the first rounds, but later he told his corner that Moloney was not going to get the belt and the title was returning to Mexico with him. Pedro traveled to Perth Australia to defeat Andrew Moloney via points.
”I am so happy that I apologize to all of you if I suddenly get teary-eyed, but I can’t help but remember that every punch I threw, I did it with all my heart, because I owed that victory to myself, to my team, to me. family and especially to my grandmother who I know, is with me from Heaven.
”I have such a long list of people I want to thank, but it is impossible for me not to mention the rector (2013-2021) of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Eulogio Guerra and Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, two men who have believed in me always and from whom I have received all the support.
”Of course to my family, my corner and my coach Adalberto “Cóndor” Sánchez who led me to this great victory.
”Today is a day that I will carry in my heart, it took many years for me to be at the top again, and although I am happy to have brought home the Green and Gold Belt, my goal is to be the absolute champion of the most important organization, the WBC.”
