Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado will defend her World Boxing Council super bantamweight world title for the seventh time and on this occasion against Peruvian challenger Linda Laura Lecca, this Saturday 27th at the Nuevo Toreo in Tijuana, Mexico.
Mercado is considered one of the strongest world champions of the moment. She won the world super bantamweight crown in November 2019, defeating Fatuma Zarika in a rematch.
She has defended her belt against Alejandra Guzmán, Isis Vargas, Mariana Juárez, as well as the African Kudakwashe Chiwandire.
Laura Lecca was Super Flyweight world champion between 2014 and 2018. She has already faced and defeated Mexican fighters, among them: Diana “Bonita” Fernández. Now she arrives more than motivated to become WBC world champion.
Today we have both protagonists, linked via zoom on our Coffee Tuesday. This is what the champion and the challenger commented:
Yamileth Mercado
“Women’s fights are a guarantee of spectacle. I think it will be a tough fight. She comes with the hunger to be crowned champion, but I am ready to defend my crown.
I am happy for the opportunity to unify soon but I can’t talk about those plans until I defeat my rival.”
Laura Lecca
“We are very optimistic. I must win the fight round by round. I am well prepared. I know that we are going to leave our best in the ring to obtain the result and become the new WBC world champion.”
