MANDATORY AND ELIMINATION FIGHTS – TASHKENT 2023
Official WBC Board of Governors Ruling on each weight category which is reviewed throughout the year considering the real facts and situations that happen on each case which may cause variations and adjustments on the ruling on each specific situation.
Heavyweight. Champion: Tyson Fury.
Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk for the undisputed on February 17 2024 with a rematch guarantee, regardless of the result, which has been accepted. Consequently at this time the WBC has decided to table any discussions on mandatory as it is obvious that there cannot be a more important fight than the Undisputed championship and its rematch.
On December 23 there will be several fights in Riyadh which will have immediatte impact in the WBC Ratings. The WBC will be monitoring this division throughout the year for any specific decision and ruling.
Bridgerweight. Champion Lukasz Rozanski.
Champion Rozanski has a signed contract to defend against Badou Jack. This fight has been postponed and at the moment we do not have a date. Kevin Lerena vs. Senad Gashi for the interim on November 25 in South Africa.
A review of the facts will be done after the information is available to either order final elimination fights for mandatory defenses or a tournament for the same purpose.
Cruiserweight. Champion: Noel Mikaelian
Champion in Recess Badou Jack will decide whether he will return to Cruiserweight or will continue in Bridgerweight after his challenge for the world title.
Ryan Rozicki vs. Olanrewaju Durodola fighting a final eliminator on December 2 in Canada for the first mandatory position.
There will be a tournament to determine the second mandatory challenger.
Lt. Heavyweight. Champion: Artur Beterbiev
Champion Beterbiev is defending mandatorily against Callum Smith on January 13, 2024.
Supermiddleweight. Champion: Saul Alvarez
Interim Champion: David Benavidez
Interim champion David Benavidez, mandatory contender is making a defense of his interim championship against Demetrius Andrade on November 25. After the result of this fight, we will confirm that Benavidez is the mandatory contender if he is victorious.
Middleweight. Champion: Jermall Charlo
Interim Champion: Carlos Adames
Champion Charlo will fight Jose Benavidez in a special event on November 25. We will wait for the result of this fight to review the specific situation of Jermall Charlo and all the circumstances surrounding his case. Carlos Adames, interim champion, will be part of the review and future specific ruling. Hamzah Sheeraz vs. Liam Williams defense of the silver title on December 2. Meiirim Nursultanov won an eliminator fight.
Superwelterweight. Champion: Jermell Charlo
Serhii Bohachuk vs. Sebastian Fundora fight was approved as for the interim title.
There was a motion to approve an eliminator fight in which Charles Conwell, number 1 rated will fight the highest available contender, which was approved.
Welterweight. Champion: Terence Crawford.
Interim Champion: Mario Barrios
No change in this division. President Sulaiman received the authorization of the Governors to see about contenders’ availability to fight interim champion Mario Barrios.
Superlightweight. Champion: Regis Prograis
Champion Regis Prograis will make a voluntary defense against Devin Haney on December 9. The winner will fight mandatory contender Sandor Martin.
Lightweight. Champion: Shakur Stevenson
Champion in Recess: Devin Haney
We must wait until December to know if Haney returns to this division or not. WBC will have communications with all top contenders and assess their specific situation as there have been multiple problems securing elimination bouts and co-challengers for the vacant title. Superfeatherweight. Champion: O’Shaquie Foster
Foster has just made the first mandatory defense of his title in Cancun.
Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov vs. Pablo Vicente will fight a final eliminator on November 25.
Featherweight. Champion: Rey Vargas
Interim champion: Brandon Figueroa
Rey Vargas will fight next against interim champion Figueroa and the winner to fight mandatory contender.
Nick Ball won the final eliminator for the mandatory position on November 18.
Superbantamweight. Champion: Naoya Inoue
Naoya Inoue and Marlon Tapales will fight on December 26. The winner will fight Luis Nery.
Bantamweight. Champion: Alexandro Santiago
Alexandro Santiago has a voluntary title defense and the winner to fight Vincent Astrolabio, mandatory contender.
Superflyweight. Champion: Juan Francisco Esrada
Interim champion: Carlos Cuadras
Carlos Cuadras won vs. Pedro Guevara the interim on November 17. The WBC will assess the situation of Estrada to determine the next steps on the division. A review of the facts will be done after the information is available to either order fina elimination fights for mandatory defenses or a tournament for the same purpose.
Flyweight. Champion: Julio Cesar Martinez
Julio Cesar Martinez will have a voluntary defense fight on December 16 and then he will defend his title in February. There is no mandatory contender as Ayala who had won a final elimination bout fought for another organization.

Lt. Flyweight. Champion: Kenshiro Teraji
Kenshiro Teraji made his mandatory defense. It was approved a tournament to find the mandatory contender to champion Kenshiro.
Strawweight. Champion: Yudai Shigeoka
Number two ranked Alex Winwood was approved to fight number one contender Luis Castillo in a final eliminator.
