Tijuana boxer José ‘Chapulín’ Salas received the first belt of his career yesterday from the president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaimán,
José Salas won the WBC Latin Bantamweight Continental Championship after defeating Luis “Kiko” Guzmán Torres in a great fight at the Tijuana Municipal Auditorium on April 19.
“Chapulin” Salas maintained control throughout the fight, which was reflected in the judges’ scorecards: two saw the Tijuana native win 100 to 90 and the third one scored 98 to 92.
Salas traveled to Mexico City as a guest of the WBC’s weekly ‘Coffee Tuesday’ press conference. ‘Chapulín’ was accompanied by Jackie Nava, the first WBC women’s world champion.
“He has a great team that pushes him, Jackie Nava is a reference and that support is a first step towards the ‘green and gold’ world title, you are doing very well.” Mauricio Sulaiman commented.
“I am sure that he has to be world champion, we are seeing those in his category, I know that he has a lot to give,” Jackie Nava emphasized during the event.
Jose Salas is 22 years old, a refined left-handed guard, and has an undefeated record of 15 victories with 10 KOs. He debuted in 2020 and hopes to continue building his successful career to compete for the WBC green and gold belt.
