On April 6, Jack Cullen (22-5-1, 10 KOs) will fight undefeated Croatian Luka Plantic (7-0, 6 KOs) for the WBC international title at 168 pounds, in Aschaffenburg, Germany.
Plantic has ended six of his seven professional fights by knockout and stopped Argentina’s Diego Ramirez in his most recent fight last October.
The Croatian’s coaches have decided it is the right time to step up and, having seen Cullen’s performance against Chelli, they clearly see him as the ideal opponent to take the 27-year-old to the next level.
Since he bested Avni Yildirim in 2021, Cullen has had his ups and downs. He was stopped by Kevin Lele Sadjo in a bid to take the Frenchman’s European title and then knocked down in four rounds by Diego Pacheco.
He recovered to take the British and Commonwealth titles from Mark Heffron with a stunning third-round knockout, but then allowed Chelli to take the belts from him in his first defense.
This Friday both fighters passed the weigh-in. Cullen clocked in at 167.7 pounds while Plantic clocked in at 166.8 pounds.
