Roll over Beethoven and Godzilla, because “The Monster” rules The Land Of The Rising Sun!
Unified super bantamweight champion, Naoya Inoue, retained his world titles by knocking out Luis Nery in the sixth round at the Tokyo Dome.
In the first round, the Mexican knocked down Inoue with a powerful left to the chin, but he got to finish the round. It was the first time Inoue has ever been canvassed in his illustrious career.
Inoue came out in the second round more prudently cautious, knowing feeling and appreciating the Mexican’s Armstrong pruning power.
Then in a counterattack to a surge from Nery, Inoue connected with power flurry and sent him to the canvas.
Nery was looking to land his power punches, but the Champion showed great defiance in defense and excellent waist movement, precisely counterpunching with effective, lightning fast combos and salvos.
In the fifth round, the Inoue sent Nery to the canvas again with a cracking left hook. Nery took his time in getting up, evading for the remains twenty seconds of a fateful round as the end was nigh.
In the sixth Nery launched an attack, but
Inoue blitzed him with a three punch combination, punctuated by a rocket right hand. No need for Referee Mike Griffin to count. Courageous Nery was down and out.
With this triumph Inoue won the prestigious WBC Diamond belt, a jewel that is awarded to great and historic elite champions, worthy recipients are Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather, Bernard Hopkins, Leo Santa Cruz and Maravilla Martínez.
