The boxing family fondly remembered Sal Sánchez 40 years after his passing.
It`s been all this time since the idol of Santiago Tianguistenco, Estado de Mexico, Salvador Sanchez, died, but the memory of the featherweight champion of the World Boxing Council, remains forever bright.
A story that began on January 26, 1959. Then a mischievous boy with a serious face who dreamed of being great and achieved it through God given talent and iron work ethic.
Salvador -according to his mother- was a dedicated and responsible young man who never gave up, who conquered the dream of the world championship by beating Danny “Coloradito” López in a night of glory for Mexican boxing.
His two greatest triumphs were achieved by defeating two legends. Puerto Rican Wilfredo Gómez and the young Ghanaian Azumah Nelson, in two fights that went down in history among the best ever seen in the featherweight division.
Today that man was remembered in a special way with several tributes and as always, with the presence of his people, family, world champions and former champions, journalists and members of the World Boxing Council, an organization that has been and always will be the home of our beloved champion.
