The World Boxing Council Interim Featherweight Champion, Texan Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa, will defend his title against the former world champion Jessie Magdaleno, this Saturday, May 4, in one of the main support fights of the mega card “Saúl Álvarez vs Jaime Munguía”, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Figueroa has not fought since March of last year, when he defeated Mark Magsayo, to win the WBC title. He has a record of 24-1-1, with 18 knockouts, and will look to give his career a boost this Saturday on a big stage like the T-Mobile Arena.
“I feel very blessed to have this opportunity. I’m happy to be able to get back into the ring. The fight is here and I am preparing to give my best,” said Figueroa. “I’m just focused on hard work and discipline and doing whatever it takes to be at the top of my game. It’s about who wants it more and who is hungrier. You have to come out and accept it.”
For his part, Magdaleno will come to this fight after her last defeat against Raymond Ford, in April of last year.
Magdaleno has a record of 29-2, with 18 knockouts. He was the WBO Super Bantamweight Champion by beating the legend Nonito Donaire in November 2016. But he was defeated in his second defense by Isaac Dogboe.
“This is a great opportunity. I’m grateful to Brandon for taking the fight. It will be a great show. Of course I have an advantage in experience. I’ve been there with some great fighters. I’ve been boxing for a long time and I know Brandon has put in the work too. I don’t overlook anyone. “I’m just focused on showing the world what I really am,” Magdaleno said.
