During Coffee Tuesday we greeted our WBC super bantamweight silver champion, David “Rey” Picasso, who has successfully his first fight as a professional in the USA.
David “Rey” Picasso remains unbeaten by defeating Californian Erik Ruiz by unanimous decision last Saturday night in one of the main backup fights of the “Munguía vs Ryder” card, which took place at the Footprint Center, Phoenix, Arizona.
The fight was very entertaining, Picasso had a great start but in the middle of the fight he experienced an injury which tested his character, making him dig deep.
David Picasso:
“At the end of the fifth round, I felt a very sharp pain in my ribs. I was in a lot of pain and yes, at some point I thought about stopping, but I couldn’t do that, I knew I had to fight with the tools I possess. My corner did a great job keeping me focused and motivated.
Blood, sweat and tears were required to get ahead. I learned that not everything goes as planned, as in the ring anything can change. I had to be resilient to win.
I had wanted to fight in the USA for a long time. I fulfilled a great dream. Thank you very much to everyone who is with me at all times.”
