Today, via zoom, we had the participation of the brand-new interim world champion, Brian Mendoza.
La ‘Bala’ Mendoza defeated Sebastián Fundora, known as ‘Towering Inferno’, and conquered the interim super welterweight champion of the World Boxing Council at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
“Welcome to the World Boxing Council” exclaimed the sub director of the WBC, Víctor Silva, who took the opportunity to recognize what Brian Mendoza has achieved, not only inside the ring, but also for the way in which he has conducted himself, always with respect and humility.
This is what Brian Mendoza commented, during his participation in the WBC Weekly Press Conference.
“It is a punch that I knew he could land. I had seen it in his last fight. Fundora is a very difficult opponent, to think that he could land it, to do it was very difficult.
I knew my moment was going to come in the second half of the fight. He is a punching machine and we had to gradually reduce him.
“I feel that I am still living a dream. In that punch there was my hunger, my future and my desire to succeed.
Now I’m happy. My name is now up there with the greats at 154 pounds and I’m ready to take on the best
“There are no official plans yet. I’m ready for anything: for Charlo, to face Fundora again. I’m here to face the best.
The World Boxing Council congratulates Brian Mendoza in a special way for this important victory and wishes him much success in his future commitments.
