Juan Francisco “ªGallo” Estrada will defend his WBC super flyweight world title against Jesse ‘Bam’ Rodríguez at the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday, June 29, live worldwide on DAZN.
Estrada (44-3 28 KOs) will enter the ring to defend the title for the first time after defeating his old enemy Román ‘Chocolatito’ González in the third installment of their epic trilogy in December 2022, which was an exciting bout that was won by majority decision in front of a packed crowd in Glendale, Arizona.
The 33-year-old’s victory over the Nicaraguan star put the score 2-1 in his favor in his entire famous trilogy, and now the Mexican faces the toughest young champion in the game who has already defeated two of the top four modern superflies.
Rodriguez (19-0, 12 KOs) had his own epic night at the arena 30 minutes from downtown Phoenix where he will face ‘Gallo’, when he unified at flyweight by stopping Sunny Edwards in the ninth round with an impressive performance in December.
The 24-year-old fighter will look to take advantage of that elite performance to try to regain the title he won against Carlos Cuadras in February 2022 at the Footprint Center. ‘Bam’ successfully defended the title twice, first stopping Srisaket Sor Rungvisai and then defeating Israel Gonzalez in Las Vegas in September.
Rodriguez is doing grueling preparation for this fight and has a luxury sparring partner, an old rival of “Gallo” Estrada: Nicaraguan Román “Chocolatito” González.
