A star is born? It’s all in your hands Son.
Mexican Alexandro Santiago is determined to christen himself champion by winning the vacant World Boxing Council bantamweight title, in a baptism of fire against Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire in Las Vegas.
He`s promised that no one will hold a candle to him, as an early first birthday present to his son Alex Augusto, who was born just a month ago.
In an interview with the Mexican newspaper ESTO, Santiago commented: “I am fully confident that I will be able to return home with the Green and Gold Belt, thanks to my greatest motivation, namely my little son. In addition, I have had an arduous preparation of several months, guided by Don Rómulo Quirarte.
“I want to share the dream with my son and my family of being world champion. For this I have worked a lot. It is the fight of my dreams, I will give everything in the ring, regardless of the rival, I assure you there will be a war.
“I will face a Filipino legend, that is clear to us, but we feel ready. It has been an intense training camp, very strong, all of this gives me the confidence and the hunger to be world champion, there is no one that makes me lose sleep, I will arrive well psyched up to reach that goal we have.”
With ten years as a professional, Alexandro Santiago will face a veteran fighter/legend, who doubles his experience. None other than the great Nonito Donaire, who has 22 years in the professional sphere and that this fight will be historic for the Filipino as it`s his fiftieth.
Poised and composed Alexandro Santiago pointed out that intelligence will be key to face a highly experienced rival and try to impose his boxing style. Making the necessary adjustments, together with his corner, to get the win.
“I am very determined to go looking for the fight, we are going into it with everything, but I will also fight intelligently. I will have a great rival in front of me, and we have to be very focused. Intelligence will be important in those rounds in which it must be adjusted”, stated the Mexican fighter.
Well prepared for this opportunity of a lifetime, Alex will arrive with a record of 27-3-5, 14 knockouts, while Nonito has a record of 42-7, 28 knockouts.
