On this day… January 19th

1960.- Fernando Schwartz, one of the most renowned and talented sports journalists in Mexico, was born. Fernando has built a brilliant career, which includes the coverage of 10 soccer world cups.

1978.- The Puerto Rican Wilfredo Gomez defended his WBC super-bantamweight title by defeating Japan`s Royal Kobayashi in three rounds, at the Municipal Gymnasium in Kitakyushu, Japan.

1991.- British Dennis Andries defeated the Australian Guy Waters by wide decision, at the Memorial Drive Tennis Center in Adelaide, Australia. With this win Andries defended his WBC light heavyweight title.

2008.- The American Roy Jones Jr defeated the Puerto Rican Felix “Tito” Trinidad by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden in New York. This was Trinidad’s last bout.

2013.- Mexican Robinson Castellanos knocked out Edgar Ramirez in the first round, to defend his WBC Silver Featherweight title, in Tabasco, Mexico.

2019.- French Nordine Oubaali was crowned WBC bantamweight champion, by defeating the North American Rau’shee Warren by decision, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
