Counting down until September 28 at the Spaceplus Bangkok RCA in Bangkok, Thailand, when feisty fighter from the UK Denise Castle ignites in a match against Sana Hazuki of Japan, former East-Pacific champion, for the WBC atom-weight Silver title.
“Diamond Den” hasn’t fought since March 2022, where she lost a split decision at Dubai’s Habtor Grand Hotel, while Hazuki is coming off a stoppage win in April 2023, where she defeated Thailand’s Watcharaporn Namphon.
Time away from the ring doesn`t phase Castle, who has fought at the portals and portcullis of world title level since 2014, “Being an atomweight means all my opponents are abroad and without a UK promoter, I’m used to fighting abroad with time between fights.”
Castle is famed and admired for her stamina and ring savvy, after going toe-to-toe with Bytqui for the WBC atomweight world title, and giving birth yet producing the 2018 women’s fight as voted by Women of Boxing. Warming to her task Denise cooly stated: “I don’t have ‘warm-up’ fights. When I get in the ring, I go in to fight. Actually…Life doesn’t give you warm-ups!”
Sana Hazuki, who enters the ring with 18 fights, 9 wins with 3 knockouts, is training in Okinawa for this bout to accustom herself to the intenseThai heat and humidity.
“I will need stamina for this battle,” Hazuki stated. “My opponent has a very stout heart. I respect her so much as a woman, a mother and a fighter, and I am so proud to be in the ring with her. After my last match I’m looking forward to fighting HER with fire! We are going to star in a great plus memorable fight, and what better than for a WBC title”.
