With such a spectacular atmosphere embed with the glorious traditions of boxing and wrestling, our “Martes de Café” marched to the emblematic Arena México.
Especially to celebrate with the family of both sports the 80th Anniversary of the Arena Coliseo, located in the heart of the Historic Center of Mexico City, and also known by fans as “El Embudo de Perú 77”.
Arena Coliseo is the oldest wrestling arena in the world, built by businessman Salvador Lutteroth and considered the cradle of the golden age of Mexican wrestling and also of boxing. We remember the explosive fights that we were able to enjoy in the fist fiestas of Ricardo López, Raúl Macías, Rubén Olivares, Ultiminio Ramos, José Nápoles, Carlos Zárate, to name all time greats. The super novas!
Visibly moved and with such vivid memories, the WBC President Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, recalled his childhood for a few moments, when he accompanied his father, Don Jose, to the boxing spectaculars that were presented here.
Mauricio stressed that wrestling and boxing are the sporting lifeblood of Mexico, the ones that keep fans on the very edge of their seats.
Excited to return boxing to the glory years of this venue, he took advantage of this moment to make a commitment with SALVADOR LUTTEROTH, DIRECTOR OF THE MEXICAN WRESTLING AND BOXING COMPANY to include boxing in some cards.
He added that this coming Friday he will give a recognition to Salvador Lutteroth for the 90 years of wrestling.
Finally, he praised all the work of Mr. Lutteroth and the Wrestling Commission directed by the “Fantamsma”, because without this tireless work the sport would not have reached its maximum splendor.
Ciro Nucci president of COMBOX and Daniel Aceves President of the Mexican Olympic Association, agreed that both wrestling and boxing are the sports of Mexico and both celebrated the fraternity that exists between them and especially between their idols and stars.
At this point, Carlos Zarate and Lupe Pintor, who were godparents of this event, remembered their glory years in the Coliseo, when they fought, a time that made them smile broadly and for precious moments remember the applause and cheers from the fans.
The famous children’s idol, the fighter Atlantis also took a tour of his years within the ring, as this 2023 he is celebrating 40 years as a professional. A wondrous career that undoubtedly entails many sacrifices, dedication, love and deep respect for this sport .
Finally, SALVADOR LUTTEROTH, DIRECTOR OF THE MEXICAN WRESTLING AND BOXING COMPANY expressed the satisfaction and joy of seeing boxing and wrestling united again and the idols of both disciplines reunited.
He gave special thanks to all the fans who fill the Arena with each show and make it resonate with their energy and passion.
