Unified super-welterweight champion Natasha “Miss GB” Jonas has become the first ever woman to win the British Board of Boxing Control Boxer of the Year Award.
A Steller year for thirty-eight-year-old southpaw Natasha from Liverpool who in the words of The Beatles song is: “Getting better all the time!”
The Liverpudlian lioness started making history ten years ago, by being the first woman to qualify for the Olympics. For this latest achievement shard which has shattered another ceiling, Natasha jumped up two weight divisions to TKO Chris Namus in round two to win the WBO super welter title. In her next fight, the crowning glory by defeating Patricia Berghult by UD to win the WBC Green and Gold Belt. Then the hat-trick with a UD over Eve-Marie Dicare to gain the IBF belt.
This is the culmination of blood, sweat and tears reinforcing sheer brilliance. A jubilant Natasha explained its magnitude by saying: “This isn`t just for 2022. It`s been eighteen years of work and dedicating my life! Forever in the history books. This is for all the little girls out there.”
And to continue the momentum of triumph, Claressa Shields has won Overseas Boxer of the Year. A T-Rex of triumph!
