The “Manuel Bernardo Aguirre” Gymnasium (MBA) of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, will be the luxury venue hosting the boxing gala that will be headed by the first Chihuahuan in history to become world boxing champion, Yamileth “Yeimi” Mercado, in her fifth title defense.
It`s being presented by Zanfer and 2M Promotions on Saturday March 18th, with a live broadcast nationwide on Azteca 7, the House of Boxing.
“Yeimi” Mercado (20-3-0, 5 KO’s) will take on interim champion, from Zimbabwe Kudakwashe “Take Money” Chiwandire (6-2-1, 4 KO’s) in a power duel between a fighter with great technique, resources, and experience, namely the Mexican, against an African sensation.
The venue for the fight will be the “Manuel Bernardo Aguirre” gymnasium of the Autonomous University of Chihuahua, which is a majestic multipurpose arena and which, in its original use as a basketball arena, is the home of the “Dorados” and the “Adelitas” of the University and has hosted high-impact events, both in sports plus the artistic sphere.
Named after a governor of Chihuahua in 1980, when the facility was inaugurated and from whose management most of the resources for its construction came from. At the inauguration ceremony, on October 2, 1980, Manuel Bernardo Aguirre himself cut the ribbon, together with the then president of Mexico, José López Portillo, and the dean of the University Humberto de las Casas.
Known as “La Catedral”, or “MBA” gym, the building has capacity for more than 10,000 spectators, and it is expected that by Saturday the 18th, in which part of the field can be used. A packed house of 12,000 people, supporting the world champion, Yamileth Mercado, and other talent on display will be Carlos Zaleta, Bryan Soto and bright prospect in four preliminary fights.
