Madison Square Garden in New York will once again host an epic card, when Amanda Serrano, from Puerto Rico, the unified 126-pound champion, fights the champion of the WBA, the Mexican Érika Cruz, this Saturday, February 4th, signifying another glorious chapter of the intensely competitive rivalry between Puerto Rico and Mexico.
Serrano (43-2-1, 30 KOs) most recently fought in September when she defeated previously unbeaten world champion Sarah Mahfoud of Denmark by unanimous decision.
Cruz won the WBA belt in April 2021, when she defeated former two-division world champion Jelena Mrdjenovich of Canada by technical decision in New York.
In another big bout, WBC super featherweight champion Alycia Baumgardner will attempt to become the undisputed 130-pound champion when she takes on Elhem Mekhaled.
At the end of 2021, Baumgardner conquered the WBC crown by defeating Terri Haper. She made a successful defense against Argentina’s Edith Soledad Matthysse and then faced Mikaela Mayer in a war.
In another bout, Australia’s rising star and Commonwealth featherweight champion Skye Nicolson will fight Spain’s Tania Alvarez for the WBC Silver Belt.
Twenty-seven-year-old Australian boxer Skye Nicolson has already stood impressed the fans when she won bronze at the World Championships in Astana in 2016 and she dominated the Commonwealth Games two years later.
Last year she entered the ring as a professional for the first time and has achieved a total of five wins in the first year.
Tania Álvarez, has been in the professional field since October 2021 and has had fights where she has demonstrated her exceptional technique.
This slugfest but also stylistic extravaganza presented by Matchroom Boxing is at the Hulu theater, located in Madison Square Garden and will be broadcast live on the DAZN app.
