He and Wife Kathy Jane among the 187 invited. John has been awarded a Member of the British Empire Medal- the MBE, for his outstanding contribution to boxing and tireless charity work.
He was notified about this prestigious award at the end of The Queen’s seventy years reign. He will be presented with it at the beginning of King Charles the Third’s reign.
John H and the team were presented to Her after returning from the 1968 Olympics in Mexico. He took his Mum and Kathy to be presented on Her fortieth anniversary. He’s now due to go back for this tremendous honor.
Nonito Donaire the first boxer tested by VADA and Rocky Herron, who spent 31 years in the DNA combatting the corrosive evils of narcotics, spoke about the vital importance of a clean sport and a clean life. As Nonito advised: “It is your life. You have to be explosive, not slower.” Rocky said:”Warn, advise and educate kids early. We are not trying hard enough.
“We share a message of hope, responsibility, and living a clean life. Give kids the information at an early age.”
Nonito also said:”This is your life and legacy. My wife is my shield. Some people don’t have that.”
The Amateur Boxing Panel, led by Tyson Lee of USA Boxing said amateur boxing is at a crossroads. He vowed to get boxing back into the Olympics.
Mauricio Sulaiman pledged to do everything possible and feasible, providing full cooperation saying everything starts with amateur boxing. The WBC has held fifty-eight consecutive weeks of amateur boxing. One of the stars of its organization is the irrepressible Carlos Hernandez!
