WBC 60 Convention Inaugurated

When it comes to making a grand entrance with a big statement, no one does it better than the World Boxing Council.

At Convention 60 in Palacio Mundo Imperial Hotel Acapulco, they were played in by Banda de Musica Novena Region Nuevo, conducted by Lieutenant Jorge Arride Arias. Top brass! Of note!

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman thanked Guerrero State Authorities and Acapulco for the tremendous welcome and help with all of this, making it possible, tangible and successful.

He stressed how the WBC never forgets it’s champions especially after they retire from the ring.

A sparkling and effervescent presentation from: “Showtime” Shawn Porter, sartorially attired, erudite and wonderfully versed. He stressed: “Every fighter wants to be a WBC champion.”

An emotional presentation of a Green and Gold Belt from one Hero of Humanity Bridger Walker to another Dunia Sibomara, who survived an attack of chimpanzees in the Congo, has bravely undergone multiple surgeries in the United States and has become a champion wrestler.

Then the national flags ceremony, and a stirring I admire my country presentation viz the plight and the monumental fight of Ukraine, given by boxing champion Alina Shaternokova. And also the dog Athos who survived a grenade attack there.

The Governor of Guerrero Evelyn Salgado Pineda gave a speech of welcome and more than alluded to the power of women.

Apt because then there was a tribute to the twenty years career of two division world champion Jackie Nava who was attired in a Green and Gold dressing gown and a glittering a crown befitting an Aztec Princess.

In his President’s Presentation Mauricio Sulaiman praised the Ring Telmex initiative of Carlos Slim which has produced nineteen World champions, while twenty seven former champions receive life pensions.

The WBC is partnering with several high tech companies and preparing fighter profiles. The jewel in the crown is the WBC University which offers a multitude of courses. Some of the most popular are for coaches, judges and referees, with the grass roots help coming from world class experts in those fields.

Autistic artist Jesus Becerril presented Charlie Hall with a magnificent seascape sunset painting. absolutely brilliant!

While Sebastian Fundora received an award for his boxing accomplishments.
