Progress in Iranian Boxing

WBC Representative for Iran, Reza Djabbarpoor who is at WBC 60 Convention in Acapulco`s Palacio Mundo Imperial Hotel, reports significant progress in the campaign to develop the sport.

There have been negotiations with senior government officials and it’s been agreed to hold a championship in the Capital Tehran. A prominent boxing promoter who has a sports complex with boxing rings is also helping. A media awareness campaign has been launched, which includes government agencies.

Reza says:”Things are moving and you’ll here good news soon, but we still need support from outside Iran, especially the WBC, which will make our job much easier in Iran.” The WBC has already helped, providing a boost, prestige and  and impetus, by  creating the WBC Iran belt, which is a Green and Gold incentive for promising fighters.

Reza said: “We have a population of eighty five million people in Iran and we have to build a culture of boxing, teaching them but also enlightening officials what this is all about and entails.”

The vision, ambition and aim is for a Iranian boxer to contest a WBC championship. Reza is optimistic, explaining: “The potential that I know about in my country is promising. Young boxers who are tough, ambitious and very motivated. I hope that within four or five years, we could have a Green and Gold world Champion.”

Reza is due to give a detailed report to the Convention on Thursday afternoon.
