In order to strengthen mental health in young people and keep them away from alcohol and other addictions, the World Boxing Council will support boxing workshops within the Youth Integration Centers throughout the Mexican Republic.
Dr. Carmen Fernández, director of the government institution, stated that the sport of gloves is a very effective tool to combat bad habits, mainly in adolescents, since it brings order and discipline.
“It is an opportunity for young people, instead of spending their energy on consuming substances, to do so by hitting a sack,” said the leader at the WBC Coffee Tuesday meeting. “With a program like this, you can get them away from taking any drug and give them a goal, so they can find their true calling.”
She stated that they have already given other boxing workshops with other institutions, “and it is something that has served us well, as later, many of those who take it want to be treated and cured.”
