The WBC Cares South African office recently participated in an amateur boxing tournament in partnership with the “Fight with Insight” Foundation at the WBC Arena in Randburg, Johannesburg.
The tournament was held in honor of the late Nelson Mandela and in recognition of his contribution to the people of South Africa and the creation of a free and democratic society.
This annual tournament provides a platform for amateur boxers to demonstrate their skills and abilities before a live audience and against competition from a number of local boxing clubs.
The sport of boxing was always a great passion and very dear to Nelson Mandela and he took great pride and interest in boxing. He was the guest of honor when the WBC held its anual conference in South Africa and a great friend and supporter of the Late Don Jose Sulaiman and the WBC.
“Fight with Insight” was established in 2006 in Johannesburg. Through the Foundations training and education programs and its boxing gym coaching and activities, the Foundation seeks to positively contribute towards promoting an environment and community that caters to health and sustainability for the inner-city youth that also incorporates child development programs. The training and coaching helps to instill discipline and encourages the youth to think about their future beyond the daily struggles of what it takes to survive in the harsh city environment.
The boxing tournament was well attended with a live stream broadcast by Studio 4 Ringside and thus enabling the general public to view the event as part of the Mandela Day celebrations.
