The World Boxing Council celebrates with great pride and honor reaching the $1 million dollars mark of money awarded to our heroes of the ring, through the Jose Sulaiman Boxers Fund, who have fallen in difficult times, administered by the Nevada Community Foundation.
“My dream was to generate $1 Million dollars in this auction and through the generosity of Hublot and my dear friend Jean-Claude Biver, we did it”.
This was the quote from our dear Jose Sulaiman who fought relentlessly to create this platform to help boxers from around the world.
Twelve champions participated in the memorable auction organized by Swiss luxury watches Hublot. The 12 legendary champions were: George Foreman, Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar de la Hoya, Mike Tyson, Jeff Fenech, Larry Holmes, Lennox Lewis, Azumah Nelson and Ken Norton.
The WBC wishes to acknowledge the great support given throughout these 6 years, to the following:
Each grant is awarded through a selection of those applications received by an independent selection committee every year.
Money is granted to the payment of housing, medical expenses, working tools and materials.
One million dollars have been distributed in 6 grant cycles and we keep such names anonymous but in some cases, we will create stories of success to encourage others who can turn around their lives.
Today we begin our search for the next fund raising, which will be monumental together with Hublot in 2019.
We invite all wishing to participate in this and any other fund-raising projects to reach out to the WBC as together we are changing the lives of many.
