Undisputed and undefeated super lightweight champion, Scotsman Josh Taylor, will be defending his title against the British and also undefeated contender, Jack Catterall, this Saturday, February 26, at “The SSE Hydro”, in Glasgow, Scotland.
The 30-year-old Great Scot unified all four titles when he defeated José Carlos Ramírez last May, sending him to the canvas twice, and emerging with a unanimous decision victory.
With this win, Taylor (18-0, 13 KOs) established himself not only as the best super lightweight in the world, but also as one of the best pound-for-pound boxer’s today.
Catterall (26-0, 13 KOs) has patiently waited a long time for his first title shot. He was scheduled to face Taylor earlier, but stepped aside to allow Taylor vs. Ramirez to happen.
The 28-year-old Englishman is a southpaw, like Taylor, and his most notable win came in 2018 over Ohara Davies.
The centuries-old rivalry between Scotland and England will be revived, when these latterday warriors step into the ring on Saturday in Glasgow. And they made it clear in the last press conference, that it`s going to be a bumpy night.
Josh Taylor:
“Since I was 15 years old I dreamed of being world champion. I have surpassed those dreams by becoming the first undisputed champion from Britain, holding the undisputed championship. So it’s a great moment for me to defend these belts in Scotland against Catterall.
“I am excited to be back in Scotland. It’s the first time I’ve boxed at home in just over two years and the Glasgow Hydro Arena is a cauldron. The fans will create an incredible atmosphere. I’m ready!”
Catterall boldly stated:
“Winning this fight will mean the world to me and coming to Scotland and doing it in front of Josh’s own fans, only adds energy to the fight. So, I’m excited to get here and get all these belts back for England. Josh has seen every style out there, but he’s never fought Jack Catterall. I can beat Josh.”
The fight, which is promoted by Ultimate Boxxer and Top Rank, will be televised on SKY in the UK and on ESPN in the US.
