The 59th Convention of the World Boxing Council is being held at the beautiful Presidente Intercontinental Hotel from November 14 to 19.
Official activities have already started and this day the mascot for the 15th Anniversary of WBC Cares was presented.
This beautiful project led by Jill Diamond and Christiane Manzur has bettered the lives of thousands of members of the boxing community.
It has helped many to face their personal battles and has always tried to be by the side of those who need it most.
However, it all started with the first visit, scheduled at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
After some resistance, the visit was finally approved and Genaro “Chicanito” Hernández and Érik “Terrible” Morales, accompanied by Jill, visited and greeted children and family members fighting cancer.
It was a moment that cemented the foundation of what we do today around the world alongside hundreds of collaborators. The event was a success, it exceeded expectations.
“Chicanito” Hernández was deeply affected by the emotions he experienced that day. Some time after, he returned on his own and took Nintendos to give to all the little ones that he visited days before.
Later it turned out that our beloved champion was diagnosed with cancer.. Chicanito lost the battle and passed away.
He will forever be an inspiration to WBC Cares as our eternal Green and Gold Standard.
On this 15th anniversary, Christiane Manzur and Mauricio Sulaiman created this mascot inspired by the legacy of our beloved “Chicanito” and today it was officially presented during our annual convention.
