Nursing a sore right hand, WBC flyweight champion Julio Cesar “Rey” Martinez says his guiding light in every fight is NO FEAR!
The mini Marciano plastered brave, durable and competitive Welshmen Jay Harris with an unrelenting barrage, during their Frisco Feb 29th fight in Texas, dropping him with a left right to the ribs in the tenth, going on to win a wide UD, in his first title defense.
Facially unabashed and mostly unblemished JC said his right hand started hurting in the eighth and the pain got steadily worse, so he ignored it and fought on. He said being in the same training camp as “Canelo” and Oscar Valdez is a wonderful learning curve experience. Julio thanked his family, training team, Ciro Nucci who leads Mexico City`s Boxing Commission and the WBC, also saying he wants to defend his Green and Gold Crown many times.
He also mentions that somewhere down the road he wants to fight Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez, who`s the current WBA super flyweight champion. Julio is actually a full inch taller than the Nicaraguan, at twenty five he`s seven years younger and they share the same reach of 63cms. He said: “If you want anything, you can achieve it, without fear.”
