British Lawrence Okolie won the World Boxing Council bridgerweight title this Friday, May 24, at the Podpromie Arena in Rzeszow, Poland, by knocking out local fighter and former world champion Lukasz Rozanski in the first round, on a card presented by Knockout Promotions in partnership with Boxxer; and which was broadcast by Sky Sports and ESPN KNOCKOUT.
Okolie came out more aggressive from the first bell, using his long reach and showing that he also has great punching power.
Rosanzki visited the canvas three times in the first episode before referee Daniel Van de Wiele decided to stop the fight.
A former British, Commonwealth, European and WBO cruiserweight champion, Okolie is now a two-division champion having captured the WBC Bridgerweight title.
The Bridgerweight division, which was created in 2020, is the necessary bridge to serve the large number of boxers who are between 200 and 224 pounds. This name is inspired by Bridger Walker, that hero of humanity, that little 6-year-old boy who during the pandemic heroically saved his 4-year-old sister from an attack by a wild dog.
This is the belt that was given to our proud champion Okolie upon achieving his important victory.
