This last weekend Pedro Guevara won a split decision verdict against Andrew Moloney (26-4, 16 KO’s) to claim the interim WBC super flyweight world title fighting in Australia.
Moloney boxed from the outside, weaving in and out, to hit a more agile Guevara. The Mexican responded with counter punches, especially using a left hook to the body.
Guevara’s body shots began to make a marked difference, as Moloney became more cautious with his offense.
Two judges scored the fight 115-113 in favor of Guevara, while the third saw Moloney the winner with cards of 116-113.
Today we had the privilege of having the champion present linked via zoom on our Coffee Tuesday and this is what he commented regarding this great feat:
Pedro Guevara:
“From the first round Moloney attacked with all his power and from then on I realized that he was not going to beat me.
“As the rounds went by I adapted to his style. He has a style with a lot of movement; However, he couldn’t land well.
“I have no problem fighting him again, I don’t feel that the decision was controversial, whenever he wants we will fight again, then fine.
“I am very proud to be Mexican, to travel to the other side of the world and to have achieved this result.
“In this following week I return to training. I am ready to defend my crown. I feel very proud to be WBC world champion again.”
