This morning at Tecnológico de Monterrey State of Mexico campus, an historic TEC-WBC Agreement with the priority of working together for youth.
For World Boxing Council President Mauricio Sulaiman, it was a quarter of a century memory lane return since he graduated from his alma mater, where he learned to lead his life, guided by the principles of discipline, sacrifice and effort.
He said that students and the boxers have much in common, because both go out to fight their own tough battles, seeking success which will transform their lives.
WBC President Mauricio also stressed that the TEC has inspired and moulded great professionals but also superstars of the sport. So it’s apt but also imperative to launch a very important program combining sport and this academic hub of brilliance.
Director of the TEC, Campus Estado de México, Verónica Pedrero was presented with a golden glove by the WBC, to help her fight the good fight.
She explained that sport changes people, allowing them to focus in a different way. For this reason, she highlighted the importance of the World Boxing Council, in strengthening the sport alongside and complimenting academic achievement.
After the signing of this agreement, a discussion panel was opened with the participation of WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán, Juan Ignacio Reyes, paralympic medalist, Dr. Daniel Aceves, President of the Mexican Olympic Association, Lic. Joel Sánchez Olympic medalist and TEC director Verónica Pedrero.
They not only shared their experiences as students but also how work, dedication and perseverance are the vital keys to success in so many walks of life.
The event was attended by former champions Carlos Zárate, Pipino Cuevas, Zulina Muñoz and Yésica Chávez.
Mauricio Sulaiman presented a WBC wrist bracelet to “Kika” Chavez’s baby daughter Alondra.
Outside the auditorium in the warm sunshine, a number of students sparred in a ring, hit punch bags plus a speedball and pads, with skill, but also real gusto.
