Unified super middleweight champion, Mexican Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, fights undefeated and former super welterweight world champion and compatriot Jaime Munguía, topping of the bill on Saturday, May 4 , at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Canelo vs. Munguía is the first undisputed four-belt title fight between Mexican fighters and also celebrates the great clashes between Mexicans.
The WBC will present as a special trophy to the winner of this fight, the “TAMAULIPAS” belt, a beautiful masterpiece designed and made by the family workshop “Haeberli Piel Artesanía Tamaulipeca”.
Their ornamentation is inspired by the beautiful Cuera Tamaulipeca, a typical costume that represents this beautiful state. Made of fine suede, its leather embroidery represents the flora and vegetation of the fields of Tamaulipas. The perfect conjunction of all the elements that make it up has been achieved, having the traditional bone buttons as a representative detail; called “Tarugos”. The work carried out required the drawing of the skin and the ornamentation; the cutting of the line by hand; and its adhesion and then sew it.
The central plate, made by “Imperio de Metal”, was manufactured using a special process where different artistic influences were combined in order to highlight elements of Tamaulipas. It will be contested by Saul Canelo Alvarez vs. Jaime Munguia.
This Friday both fighters passed the official weigh-in. Canelo weighed 166.8 pounds; while Munguía was 167.4 pounds.
The card is organized by Canelo Promotions and will be broadcasted in a PBC PPV event on Prime Video. Fans will also be able to purchase the PPV through DAZN.
