On Saturday, the World Boxing Council interim welterweight champion, Mario “El Azteca” Barrios and the powerful Argentine puncher Fabián “TNT” Maidana, will face each other in one of the main support fights of the mega card “Saúl Álvarez vs Jaime Munguía”, which will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Both had plenty to say:
MARIO BARRIOS
“We know he comes from the Maidana family of fighters. He’s trying to get out of his brother’s shadow and I just have to make sure I stay on top of everything. I have no doubt that we will be victorious if I fight my fight.
“I plan to achieve as much as I can at 147 pounds. This is where I feel comfortable and strong and I am going to try to stay here as long as possible.
“Having a child on the way makes me understand a lot when people say, ‘I’m striving for something extra.
“Las Vegas is the best place for training camp. I get the best job here. I have quality sparring at all times, and it is really beneficial. Camp has been great and I’m really ready for it to be over.
“We have had a long camp and I am excited for a great opportunity on a great Mexican card. “I’m honored to be a part of this and I look forward to giving the fans a great fight.”
FABIAN MAIDANA:
“I know Mario Barrios and I’m not worried about his height. Let’s give the fans a big fight And the only thing I’m worried about is keeping that belt.
“It is very exciting to fight on this card with Canelo. It’s very motivating to know that he’s watching. I’m ready to put on a show for everyone who supports me.
“I am very happy to be in this position and I can’t wait to get into the ring in Las Vegas. I’m very familiar with Barrios because he was on the same cards as him before. “I’m ready for May 4.”
